Chlamydia Treatment Service

Watch our short video on the NHS Fife Chlamydia Treatment Service.

NHS Fife introduced a new local service in March 2021 that is delivered from Community Pharmacies. Patients can now be treated for Chlamydia using a PGD for doxycycline when the patient/sexual contact presents a voucher that they have received from the 'Sexual Health Fife' team.  We held an online training session which gave participants the opportunity to understand how the doxycycline treatment voucher scheme will work. The session was also an opportunity to meet members of the Sexual Health Fife team and learn more about their service. We discussed current recommendations for STI screening to support Community Pharmacy teams to counsel and signpost their patients for testing and treatment where appropriate.  Additionally, the lead nurse from the Gender based Violence service discussed referral pathways available for patients disclosing gender based violence to community pharmacy teams and the resources available to support pharmacy teams in this role.

You'll find more information in the Service Spec Doxycyline pgd March 22 document. N.B your pharmacy has to sign up to participate in this service before supplies to patients can be made. For more information and for a list of participating community pharmacies please contact
