The Emergency Care Summary (ECS) gives healthcare staff, including community pharmacists and registered technicians, access to a data to support patients during emergency situations or when a patient’s GP Practice is closed. This is a really useful tool which should be used to support delivery of enhanced and efficient patient care.
Fair Warning All staff:
- Have professional obligations to respect and maintain the security and confidentiality of patient information.
- Must only access patient records where you have a legitimate clinical or administrative reason for doing so.
- Must not access your own records.
- Electronic patient information systems are fully auditable, all access to patient records is attributed to your username and you may be asked to justify why you have accessed a record. All potential instances of unauthorised access are investigated accordingly.

Emergency Care Summary Access
To apply for access please complete the Contractor O365 email & ECS Account Request Form and return to: eHealthSystemAccessTeam@aapct.scot.nhs.uk
If an ECS account has not been accessed within a 90 day period, the account will become inactive. Contact the NHS AA Digital Services Desk (01292 513355) to have the account reset. The Service Desk only operates Monday to Friday, therefore to ensure you are able to access ECS at all times, please login at least once a month – you do not require to access a patient, login and log off will be enough to keep the account active.
