{"id":53,"date":"2024-05-15T16:12:38","date_gmt":"2024-05-15T15:12:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.communitypharmacy.scot.nhs.uk\/nhs-highland\/nhs-borders\/pgds\/"},"modified":"2026-05-22T14:27:39","modified_gmt":"2026-05-22T13:27:39","slug":"pgds","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.communitypharmacy.scot.nhs.uk\/nhs-highland\/pages\/pgds\/","title":{"rendered":"PGD&#8217;s"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Patient Group Directions (PGDs) provide a legal framework that enables appropriately trained and authorised healthcare professionals to supply and\/or administer specified medicines to predefined groups of patients, without the need for an individual prescription.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Within NHS Highland Community Pharmacy Services, PGDs support the safe, timely, and consistent delivery of a range of clinical services, ensuring patients can access treatment efficiently while maintaining robust governance and clinical oversight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pharmacy teams must ensure they are familiar with the PGDs relevant to the services they provide, and that all staff operating under PGDs are appropriately trained, authorised, and working within the agreed scope of practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is the professional responsibility of the community pharmacy contractor to ensure that all relevant PGDs are fully signed and that a copy is retained within the pharmacy for audit purposes.
