INJECTING EQUIPMENT PROVISION

The main aim of injecting equipment provision (IEP) is to minimise the spread of blood borne viruses (BBV), such as HIV, Hepatitis B and C and other blood-borne diseases, which can occur as a consequence of injecting drug users sharing needles and syringes. By providing clean sterile needles, injecting equipment and other harm reduction paraphernalia these risks are substantially reduced so benefiting the wider society.

The service allows staff to have meaningful conversations with users to promote safer injecting practices and safer drug use. Information on other harm reduction services can also be provided to users on the importance of take home naloxone (THN) in suspected opioid overdose, the importance of testing for BBVs and wound management.

HOW TO ORDER EQUIPMENT

An order form can be requested for your pharmacy by emailing: Fife.fifepharmacycommpharm@nhs.scot

HOW TO CLAIM FOR IEP

Claims for providing IEP to patients should be logged on the NEO 360 system at the time of the transaction. Payment will be made monthly based on the data recorded on NEO.

The following document contains a step-by-step approach to processing claims on NEO 360 and also provides screenshots of each stage: Neo 360 claim guide. For pharmacies that are unable to digitally record transactions as they happen, copies of the screenshots can be used to record the appropriate details – these should be documented on the NEO 360 system as soon as possible.

TRAINING RESOURCES

The national training for IEP is currently provided by Orion Medical. This can be accessed on the Orion Medical website. For access to the Orion Medical NSP Handbook and Integrated Exam the password is: orionmsl.
