Patient Group Directions (PGDs)

Non-urgent advice: Note

From 1st November 2025, the process of informing NHS Fife when a PGD has been signed will change.

Please complete the PGDs – Confirmation of Signature form when a PGD has been signed.
It is no longer necessary to post or email a signed copy to the PGD team.

When a patient is excluded from a PGD

An e-SBAR is always the preferred and endorsed method of communicating non-urgent clinical information to general practice colleagues.

This referral form has also been produced for use in NHS Fife, at the request of community pharmacy teams and GP staff alike, when an e-SBAR has not been possible. It can be given to a patient and helps communicate clearly why a PGD supply was not appropriate at that time. This is useful information for patients and general practice staff.
