5. Training

All Pharmacists undertaking flu vaccinations must undertake immunisation training including anaphylaxis management, and this must be delivered by a recognised private immunisation training organisation.  Please also visit the NES Seasonal Flu TURAS page - TURAS

Please navigate through Turas Vaccination Management Tool where you will find links to the User Guides and FAQs pages.

6. Stock Ordering

Community Pharmacies can place orders for flu vaccinations to be used in this year’s programme from Thursday 7th September 2023.

Vaccines should be ordered from AAH using the normal ordering process.  NHSGGC has set a cap on the number of vaccinations that can be ordered from AAH as follows.

Due to availability of stock, the following quota arrangements for flu vaccines in Community Pharmacy will now apply.

There is no daily cap on orders; Community Pharmacies can order the following on a monthly basis (your monthly allocation can be ordered in one transaction):

QIVc

  • A maximum of 4 x 10 vaccine packs of QIVc

aQIV

  • A maximum of 1 x 10 vaccine packs of aQIV

In the unlikely event that a participating pharmacy requires more than the noted allocation above, a request should be made to cpdt@ggc.scot.nhs.uk.  Each request will be considered individually and the Contractor advised of the outcome.

  • The request should contain: Contractor Code and Reason for request

AAH Order Link Codes 2023

7. PILs Ordering

Patient Information Leaflets (PILs) for QIVc and aQIV will be supplied in pads of 10 leaflets and will automatically be added to your vaccine order.

8. Inactivated Influenza Vaccine National Protocol v4 (August 2023)

Registered Pharmacy Technicians can now have a greater role in the delivery of the NHS Flu Immunisation programme (see Table 1 below).

The National Protocol should be read, understood and completed.  The main points are listed as follows:

  • The Protocol only applies to the administration of flu vaccine via the NHS service.
  • Only for Registered Pharmacy Technicians.
  • The Contractor is responsible for ensuring that any Technicians using this Protocol are appropriately trained and competent to safely vaccinate.
  • The Pharmacist is required to act as the 'Clinical Supervisor' and must be identified as part of this Protocol.
  • The Clinical Supervisor has the overall responsibility for the provision of safe care.
  • The Health Board is responsible for ensuring that the Contractor adheres to the Protocol.
  • Completed copies of the Protocol should be retained for 8 years.
