Gluten Free Food Services

Description of Service

Gluten Free Food Service: Community pharmacies in Scotland offer gluten-free food supplies to individuals with coeliac disease. Patients with a confirmed diagnosis can register with their GP or dietician to receive gluten-free foods free of charge. The pharmacy team should provide order forms and a copy of the most up to date formulary for the patient to use. The service aims to improve dietary compliance and health outcomes for patients with coeliac disease.

Gluten Free Formulary

The Food List (Formulary) is a list of prescribable gluten-free products that can be ordered by patients in the North of Scotland. It gives a wide, but not exhaustive, list of available gluten-free products.  The pharmacy is also responsible for providing an annual review, supply and advice. Gluten free food services should be monitored through the PCR, and this will help to track support for patients in their care. Each month patients can select a number of units of gluten free food from the formulary.
