New Pharmacists

Welcome to NHS Highland Community Pharmacy Services. We are delighted to support pharmacists at the beginning of their careers as they transition into practice across our diverse and often remote communities. We are also delighted to support pharmacists moving to the area. NHS Highland offers a unique and rewarding environment for pharmacists, providing opportunities to deliver patient-centred care across urban, rural, and island settings.

Please familiarise yourself with our website, which provides a comprehensive overview of the services we deliver and outlines the expectations for community pharmacy teams across NHS Highland. We have a Community Pharmacy Information Pack which holds all up to date Patient Group Directives and Service Level Agreements.

Further Information:

To support your transition into practice, we have developed a range of guidance, resources, and key contacts, which can be accessed throughout this website. If you require further support or have any queries, please contact the Community Pharmacy Services team.

Essential Information:

On starting in NHS Highland, you will require Patient Care Record access and Emergency Care Summary access.

Please find the Community Pharmacy Smartsheet link here. This resource provides key operational information, including pharmacy closures, public holiday opening hours, and an overview of the services delivered by each contractor.

Our weekly mailing is issued to all Community Pharmacies every week. It is important that this is reviewed regularly to ensure you remain up to date with any service updates, operational changes, or urgent actions required. The mailing is sent to the pharmacy’s generic email inbox. If you experience any difficulty accessing this, please contact us promptly.

Pharmacies should already have access to PECOS for ordering pharmacy stationery. If there are any issues logging into PECOS, please notify us so that we can provide support.

We also operate a WhatsApp group for pharmacies across Highland. This is used to share important alerts, such as patient safety notifications, which will also have been issued via email. To ensure we can keep this contact list up to date, please provide a suitable mobile number.

The Treatments and Medicines app – found here, is a great resource for any medicine related queries you may have.
