Clinical Portal and ECS

Registered Community Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians can now access the clinical portal and the emergency care summary (ECS).  These tools provide vital access to patient information which help these healthcare professionals to provide a safe and effective service to the people of Fife and beyond.

Clinical Portal is a 'read only' platform that pulls data from other clinical systems. As such there is an ECS tab in portal itself which provides information on acute and repeat medications. The current version of ECS in portal does not, however, provide detail on the quantities prescribed and whilst this fix is being pursued a direct link for the national ECS system is also provided below if this information is required.

In a welcome development to the Health and Social Care Clinical Portal, users will soon be able to access patient information from 6 clinical portals across the west of Scotland health boards. The process of linking the portals started on 5th May 2022 and began with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. Users can look forward to being able to review their own patient’s information on the linked portal, regardless of whether they have a patient record on NHS Fife’s system or not. The attached guide provides further information on this.

Following integration with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, the process will continue with NHS Forth Valley, Golden Jubilee, Lanarkshire, Ayrshire & Arran, and Dumfries & Galloway. We are also actively pursuing a link to NHS Tayside Portal.

In addition to the above information, NHS Fife are pleased to be one of the first to implement the availability of COVID-19 vaccination information to the Health and Social Care Portal.

As part of a national programme, users will be able to view vaccination details, including dose and date, by accessing the immunisation tab in a patient record. Users will also be able to see if the vaccination was not successfully given.

This latest development is yet another significant upgrade to the Portal, and follows several recent changes, with more to come soon.
