The interactive NHS Scotland Smoking Cessation Service module aims to:

  • support pharmacy teams in delivering an effective smoking cessation service.

  • update pharmacy teams on developments in smoking cessation, including updated evidence on the use of varenicline and comparative success that can be achieved with different pharmacotherapies for smoking cessation.

The MCQ Assessment: smoking cessation (MCQ1) assessment is for all pharmacy staff.  Pharmacists should complete this to deliver the service.

Registration with Turas/NES is free to all health workers.  Approximate time of completion of both is 1-2 hours.

Further comprehensive online training adapted by NHS Scotland from The National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training can be found here.

The 5 Smoking Cessation eLearning modules:

  • are designed to provide professional training for those supporting smokers through the process of quitting smoking;
  • cover detailed, practical application of topics surrounding medication, pregnancy and the client quit journey, including many short video role plays.

An online assessment and accreditation certificate is offered following the modules.

Approximate time of completion in total is 10 hours - but modules are intended to allow you to dip in and out of sections to support specific learning needs.
