Tick/Lymes Disease Training

Tick-borne diseases are an increasing public health concern, particularly in rural and semi-rural areas. Community pharmacies are well placed to support public awareness, early signposting, and education relating to ticks and associated conditions.

The session will cover:

  • Tick life cycle and safe tick removal
  • Overview of tick-borne conditions, including:
    • Lyme Disease
    • Tick-Borne Encephalitis
    • Alpha-Gal Syndrome
  • The role of community pharmacies in public and local education as “tick experts”
  • Medications used in the treatment of Lyme Disease
  • Current research and emerging tick-borne pathogens
  • Enhancing pharmacy knowledge supports early identification and appropriate signposting
  • Aligns with public health and preventative care priorities
  • Strengthens the role of pharmacies as accessible sources of health advice within communities
