Payment for delivery of the QYW Stop Smoking Service are made to a pharmacy if PCR entries are correctly submitted at Quit date (£30), 4 (£15) and 12 (£35) but no later than weeks 1, 6, 14 (respectively). No further payment is made if support to the client is made beyond week 12.

6. Varenicline PGD & Assessment
Varenicline PGD – Click here
Varenicline Assessment form – Click here
Varenicline PGD is now live for use within NHS Lanarkshire. Registered Healthcare Professionals are covered under a PGD as soon as they accept the professional obligations by signing the Authorisation Sheet, while there is no regulatory or legal requirement for copies of the signed sheets to be submitted to the Board, it is recommended that Boards keep a list of the Registered Healthcare Professionals that are operating under a Patient Group Direction(s). In place of submitting signed sheets to the board, NHS Lanarkshire now has an e-form available for Community Pharmacy Registered Healthcare Professionals to notify boards of PGD sign up: PGD Sign Up
7. Guidance Pack
This document provides some useful information in delivering the smoking cessation programme. Any questions please get in touch with a member of the team on the details provided above.
8. Drug Interactions
Are you aware of the drug interactions with smoking? SPS has a helpful website on interactions :
9. Vaping
Anyone who is vaping AND smoking tobacco can be given NRT, if they are solely vaping they cannot be part of the 12 week programme. The specialist service no longer provides behavioural support to those who are solely vaping. You will find useful information on the following leaflets, that can be printed and shared with patients.
10. Resources/CO Monitor
If you require leaflets, CO monitor resources etc then please complete the following QYW Pharmacy Resource Order Form
Useful short clip on how to use monitor https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zFfC1UjFww
The CO monitor belongs to NHS Lanarkshire, if you have any issues or require a replacement monitor, mouthpieces etc. then please contact the QYW Pharmacy Support Team.

The following procedure is common to all monitors:
- Both the client and the stop smoking practitioner should use sanitiser gel on their hands before the test. Hand sanitiser must be alcohol free to avoid damaging the sensor and giving a false reading.
- Attach a clean, disposable, mouthpiece (a fresh one for each client) to the monitor.
- Turn the machine on
- Ask the client to take a deep breath
- The monitor will count down 15 seconds and beep during the last 3 seconds
- The client needs to blow slowly into the mouthpiece aiming to empty their lungs completely
- The parts per million (ppm) of carbon monoxide in the lungs will be displayed on the screen
- The mouthpiece should be removed by the client (for infection control reasons)
- The CO monitor should be cleaned between tests using a non-alcoholic wipe
